Ever wonder what happens to trailers that have had their tops peeled back like a can of sardines from traveling under a too-low bridge? J.P. Rivard Trailer Sales, Inc. is one of the largest tractor trailer sales and repair service businesses in New England and has an existing facility in North Chelmsford, Massachusetts.

Places Associates, Inc. worked with J.P. Rivard to create for them a more functional site by expanding their existing truck trailer maintenance and sales facility. This was accomplished with the construction of a new 10,000 square-foot building. In addition to three new mechanics bays, the new facility houses the trailer wash facility and a paint booth.

Some of the challenges on the site included cost effective ways to maintain the functionality of the active yard area while siting the new facility in close proximity to the existing building as well as minimizing the impact to abutting wetlands and residential areas. Permits included a special permit and site plan review from the Planning Board as well as a Notice of Intent with the Conservation Commission.
